Flotation therapy is the practice of lying back in one of our original float rooms and experiencing the blissful, profoundly relaxing, healing state of complete sensory rest. The scientific term is “sensory deprivation” but in reality, it is an experience rich in inner beauty and serenity. This environment allows an individual to float effortlessly on the surface of the water. The primary function of the isolation tank is to eliminate as many of the external senses as possible. 

Float therapy provides the perfect sensory conditions for deep relaxation of the body and mind. By immersing yourself in an Ocean Float Room, you are effortlessly floating in a warm Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt) solution, with no sound, no light, and with the solution and air at body temperature simulating the ultimate experience of nothingness. This allows the brain to enter a meditative state free from external sensory input. Sensory deprivation therapy is achieved through removing close to 100% of all external stimulation, thereby freeing up huge areas of the subconscious mind. Gravity is neutralized through the super buoyant Epsom salt water, and the remaining senses are calmed through silence, darkness (unless the floater prefers a soft light in the beginning), minimizing skin sensation and temperature control.

Your First Float

Before you arrive

•  Don’t shave 8 hours before (salt can sting open cuts).  
•  Nothing to bring but an open mind.  
•  Everything you need is provided (towel, ear plugs, shampoo, conditioner, and q-tips).  
•  Swimsuit not necessary.  
•  As little caffeine as possible before. 
•  Light meal an hour before your float (suggested, but not necessary).  
•  Arrive about 10 minutes before your float to get checked in and acquainted with the space. 

When you arrive / float preparation

•  Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment time. We will greet you, offer a tour and answer any of your questions; we want you to feel welcome and relaxed.
•  Once you enter the float room, remove your clothes and all jewelry. Shower to remove oils, fragrances and hair products; all shower and float essentials are provided for you. *DO NOT USE CONDITIONER
•  Dry your face to avoid distracting water droplets, insert your foam ear plugs and step into the tank.
•  Lie back, resting your head into the water, legs extended and arms over your head or extended at your side. Your ears will be under the water line, but your face will remain above it. Find what’s comfortable for you.
•  The audio will gently fade on and a chime will sound when your session is complete.
•  Exit the tank, then shower again to remove any salty residue. Once you’re dressed, please exit the room to make way for our next floater.
•  No need to rush away; continue to relax in our “ et ready” room or enjoy some conversation in our communal area. Water is provided.

After your float

After the float is over feel free to hang out, read, chat,or just bask in your post-float glow. 

Stay as long or as little as you like after your float is over. Make sure and drink plenty of water after this service.

The more you use flotation tanks the better it gets! Each flotation tank session is unique, and two floats are rarely the same. 

During a float, you produce slower brain-waves patterns, known as theta waves, which are normally only experienced during a deep meditation or just before falling asleep. This is usually accompanied by vivid imagery, very clear, creative thoughts, sudden insights and inspirations or feelings of profound peace and joy. Because of these effects, floating is used effectively in the treatment of depression and addictions. 

We have a filtration system that runs after each session. There is more than 1000 pounds of medical grade Epsom salt dissolved in the tank – a concentration so high no living microorganism can survive. In addition, a ultra-violet light sterilization system is used. UV is the safest, most effective system available and uses the same technology as water purification systems used for drinking water. To maintain cleanliness, a shower is mandatory before floating. 

Since it is a private experience, most people don’t wear anything. Anything you wear will touch against your body, becoming a distraction

Not that we know of. People of all ages and walks of life seem to enjoy the experience equally. What seems typical is how glowing and peaceful everyone looks when they come out of the tank. 

Floating, as with other treatments, does not suit everybody. It requires willingness on your part to let go and see what happens, and you may need to float a few times before you are able to relax completely, both physically and mentally. Depending on your own journey through life, a float might provide an hour of total physical relaxation – or a profound healing experience, emotionally and spiritually transforming. Floating can be a wonderful aid to opening doors into your inner world, gradually allowing access to those deeper levels at which real changes take place. 

We do not recommend use tank for epileptics whose epilepsy is not under medical control, for anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or for those with infectious diseases or open skin wounds. 

Yes. We suggest pregnant women inform their physicians and midwives or get their opinion prior to using the tank. The reports received from pregnant women have been enthusiastic. As their bodies get heavier, floating is a great relief from the pull of gravity. Floating has given many women a welcome rest. 

Yes, if you use a tampon. 

All the ways are right. Each person will find whatever position is most comfortable for them. Some people float with their hands at their sides, some with hands folded across their chest or abdomen, or behind their heads. You may float with the door open or closed, eyes open or closed. Float the way it is comfortable for you and explore what is best for you.

The Epsom salt solution is beneficial to the skin and hair. People leave the tank with softer-feeling skin.

Yes, you can wear one, but it likely will not keep your hair completely dry. 

Yes, some people fall asleep in the tank, and some people use the tank for sleeping. 

Yes. It is impossible not to float in the tank. Eight hundred pounds of salt dissolved in the water makes the solution so dense that your body is pushed to the surface like a cork. Your face is out of the water and your ears are underwater. 

People who say they are afraid to use the tank because they are claustrophobic probably assume they will be confined in an enclosed space. You can use the tank with the door open if you wish, and are in complete control of the situation. You can get in and out whenever you want. In our experience, most people who are afraid of being claustrophobic find they are okay once they are in the tank. 

It is safe to fall asleep in the tank. Even those who say they never sleep on their backs in bed are often able to in the tank. It is very difficult to roll over in the tank because of the density of the solution, and if any of the salt solution gets in your eyes, mouth, or nose, you would wake up immediately.
